I’m pretty bummed I neglected this page so long.

I just got totally tied up with Uni stuff // totally NOT stuff. I guess this year was tougher than I expected it to be, the main reason being that before it began, I didn’t really draw…at all. I was totally into graphics in college and rarely pulled myself away from my laptop. After a couple months of the course though, I totally couldn’t see myself designing fancy bottles and packaging for my whole life. 

Illustration was definitely the right choice and I’ve got my shit in order for the summer now and lots of drawing to do. Feeling good.

I’m also off to Wales on Saturday for a long weekend in the caravan with the missus. I’m pumped.

I haven’t been posting any work here have I? I plan to completely overhaul this thing with quite some urgency.

Turns out I’m actually rather proud of the above. This is not a common phenomenon for me. I tend to exist in a constant state of not-great-not-spectacular-ness. It’s not a very good approach to things. Pleasantly surprisingly, I finished this up and immediately after caught my reflection in my bathroom mirror and felt pretty darn good. This could have been simply a feeling of relief as I pissed away a build up of beer, but I’d like to believe otherwise. Anyway, I’m feeling good.

I am working on a book.

I’m not communicating well. I need to go to sleep.

Some lousy trash talker in my head had me believing that there existed a whole ton of serious stuff out there. I imagine the smug fuck to look something like this;

Of course I could be wrong. Not to worry because the following has assured me otherwise.

I found this little piece of street treasure at the train station. It was on the bench next to me as I ate my sandwich. It reads; “Nothing is seriouse (serious) don’t worry”. I don’t exactly know how something so trivial as a sentence in a found notebook could put me at ease, but it really did. I also enjoyed the fact that the first sentence I read as I opened it was; “Hello, how are you today?” It’s kinda like asking yourself, which I think I may start to do more often. More often than not you’ll go, “Yeah, today is pretty lovely”. 

The spelling of serious in the title of this post is intentional by the way. It’s the way the owner of the book spelt it. The OCD in me is pleading with me to make this clear. As far as I can decipher, the notebook contains what looks like someone practicing to be one of those people that rings to sell you a new telephone service or whatever. The rest is all little notes like “Revise the pitch” and “Have an agenda” and all other manner of phrases that remind me of doing serious stuff like job interviews and exams. I’m not a fan of serious stuff, so the first page is pretty much my favourite.

This little gem also gave me a right good cheer up.

I got it signed at the free set The King Blues did at a little record shop in town. Unfortunately, it is so little that it arguably falls within the realms of tiny and I wasn’t able to get inside. It was no worry though. I stood at the door with a bunch of others drinking a brew and it was most excellent. It now sits with the other fallen soldiers on my kitchen windowsill.

On another note, I cannot wait to grow old!

I’m kinda bummed that I Haven’t posted anything in so long (and that this is the second time that I’m writing this due to it being eaten by WordPress), I’ve just been troubling myself with the regular stuff. Nothing major. Just the same old muddling through projects and the ever-looming questioning of things like; ‘hey, wait a minute, where’d my motivation go?’ or ‘why am I getting letters saying my water’s going to be cut off due to no one allegedly living in my house?’. Anyway, all silly trivialities aside, I’ve reinstated the use of my own personal ‘I can, I can’ mantra and am currently working on some miniature stage design for Robert Louis Stevenson’s, Treasure Island. Damn, this was one of my most favourite books (/picture books) when I was a kid; which makes it kinda strange that it took me such a great deal of time to recall the story. Maybe I’ll read it again when I get the time, that’d be super nice!

So, after some reading up and careful deliberation, I came to the conclusion that the following ideas are at the heart of the tale:

-  There is an apparent urge for youth (eugh, that’s a horrible word but I’m being all English As level) to attain experience and
   to do it with haste.
- The hunger for monetary gain is a futile exercise.
- There is a lack of adventure in the modern age.

With this in mind, I’m completing in a ‘Kerouac-beatnik-kids looking to the big enchanting places for something they had with them all along’ kind of way where enlightenment takes the place of the treasure. Clear? Probably not. It has also come to my attention that I talk about Kerouac far to often when talking about my ideas. It’s getting a bit weird. Here are the first couple of characters anyhow;

So I guess I should get rolling on with something similar now, huh?

To conclude, the inner child in me that seems to currently be running rampant compelled me to share this with you;

Without a doubt, I can see myself posting maybe a couple more times today, or at least updating some stuff.

I’m looking to include some photo elements into the background and some context, or a sort of dreamscape, to that tyrannous little villain down there. It’s not cool to just let him float there.

So, what I could really use is a brief description of something that you recently dreamt of. You can either comment me on here, email me, or send me a message on Myspace or Facebook if I have you added on one of those God-forsaken things. 

The way I see it, this way, we will have made something that forms a connection between us. The night time is a pretty excellent time. I feel it is often the time when people are their most vulnerable, honest, and around 3:00 am is my favourite time to socialise.

I’ve been so wrapped up in myself lately. What a silly boy. I don’t believe that’s a very positive way to develop. I can’t wait to hear about those whispers that flow nightly through those heads of yours’.

I just rediscovered this blog. I’m not sure how I have failed to take a look at it in so long, but it has now reclaimed its rightful place as a key source of inspiration. What a gem!

It’s a shame that they disabled it from being embedded. Anyways, I’m big fan and I am loving this.

I pieced together an animatic storyboard for a 30 second animation in which three children perform a native American ritual that turns them into human/animal-super-powered-hybrid-shamans.

Native Americans are most definitely my favourite people, taking into account the entire expanse of human history. They had it so well figured out. It bums me out that people are not quite so excellent today.

I’m working back into my previous projects before assessment. I’m knackered right now and really can’t muster the energy to write anything insightful here until tomorrow. So, if you see this before then I apologise. It’s not finished. Obviously I realise there are only 4 eggs, not 6; but there were no shops left open when I did this. Whatever. Finish tomorrow.
